News of me I've got internet! I'd like to thank my new ISP SFR, who managed to give me internet access a whole 10 days before the estimated day, yay!
My new address is available in friends- or access-locked posts on DW, IJ, and LJ. If you want to send me a card and can't see any of these posts, let me know. Speaking of cards, have you signed up for your Holiday Card?

still here, still hacking Just a big thank you and hugs to all who sent well-wishes on my having caught (and apparently caged deep in my lungs) the scourge of the ages; i.e. - h1n1. I'm *still* badly fatigued and ill. I can manage sitting up a couple times a day and using the laptop, but most of the time I'm down and coughing my torso muscles into painful jelly. There is no energy for anything else. I miss my flist. I hope to catch up eventually. For now... recovery. *Squee* FFBB has begun posting on DW, mine is first and is followed by beautiful art for my fic. I've never had any art offered for any fic I've written. This is also my first Firefly fic, so I'm doubly excited. Please to click on the links if you're so inclined. :) |

Countdown to the Day After Thanksgiving Yes, I'm one of the crazy people that are at the mall before sunrise on the Day After Thanksgiving. And for as crowded as the stores get at 5AM, I'm the only person in my circle that actually gets out there that early. But I love. Very little money to spend this year, but I've got a brief list and I'm getting some great bargains. Four Weeks till the Day After Thanksgiving! Woo!!!!! Current Mood: happy |

HP recs: two long H/D fics I've been thinking about what being in fandom and out of fandom means in my case -- well, apart from the obvious, such as participating in various events, doing community service, and such. It also means that, for example, in my time in HP fandom, any couple of recs I posted were two from a hundred fics read or tried. Now it means two out of three that I tried :) I'm not going out of my way to find new interesting things anymore, nor am I willing to try a fic if I find something (even a tiny something) displeasing in the headers. And if I do try reading something, chances are I'll never finish it. I mean, finishing a HP fic has become exception rather than rule. I find this sort of change very amusing. :) A Confusion of Will and Desire, by Gatewaygirl ##Harry/Draco, some Harry/Ginny, Harry/OFC, NC-17, novel-length. Canon Compliancy: EWE. Summary: When Harry starts to have erotic dreams about his godfather, he questions his sexual preference. The real issue turns out to be even more complicated and disruptive. Warnings: highlight in the fic post. Gatewaygirl writes my dream Harry/Draco. Well, she writes my-dream-many-a-thing; she's only of my favourite writers in general. But her H/D, rare as it is, is unique, as for me. It's long, plotty enough, sexy, and has this something undefinable that charms the pants off me. If you have read her Snakes and Lions, you'll love this fic: it has some similar ideas, only shown differently, and somewhat similar relationship dynamics. Somewhat, not quite. (If you haven't read SaL, whatever are you waiting for?) I saw this story posted and thought the premise looked intriguing. Ha! The actual story turned to be even more intriguing, and I was completely hooked by the second thousand words. What's happening to Harry at the beginning is both interesting and creepy. Of course I wanted to know what was going on. When very soon Harry had to talk to a Muggle shrink, well, this was the scene that made me fall in love with this fic. It's hilarious, even though it's not comedic per se. It's just... try to imagine in detail how the story of Harry's life and various relationships would look if told to a Muggle. Yeah :) Anyway, it's near 70K words that kept my attention all the way. The ending parts show us some ideal version of HP reality, of sorts. I don't mean that it's all roses, fluffy bunnies, and holding hands. It's hard to explain. I mean, in another story, I probably would dismiss the last few parts as too easy or unbelievable, but in this one, they weren't unbelievable at all. We've been led to it through the entire story, so as a result, those last parts are as enchanting as the rest of the fic, and not boring at all, as I would have expected. I probably confused everybody completely, so to summarise: I loved the story, the beginning, the middle, the ending, all of it :) Do try it! Sweatin' to the Voldies, by [anon] ##Harry/Draco, (mostly past) Harry/Ginny, Ron/Hermione, NC-17, 24,500 words. Summary: The-Boy-Who-Lived has become The-Boy-Who-Ate, and his girlfriend just can't take it anymore. After Ginny leaves Harry for presumably slimmer pastures, Harry realizes that if he has any chance of getting her back, he's going to have to get fit quick. It's really just his bad luck that a certain pale, pointy bastard owns the only wizarding gym in the country. Warnings: EWE, frottage, rimming, tiny bit of movie canon (flying origami notes). If you are one of those people who are tired of Draco always been portrayed as slim or skinny, this fic is for you. It features bulky!Draco. Yes, it also features fat!Harry. Both of which I'm happy to see because after so many HP fics read, I welcome any believable step off the well-trodden road of H/D fiction. The fic is at once refreshing, entertaining, very vivid, and moving. What else to wish! Well, good writing of course but it has that too. To quote a reviewer, "It was the perfect balance of humour, plot, angst and reality." I do admit that I don't believe in this Draco's motivation of opening the gym -- or don't completely buy it -- but it's a really enjoyable reading on the whole, and certain scenes are plain hilarious. Which makes me strongly suspect who the author is, but I'll keep that to myself. Highly recommended!

SoCal Cat Lovers? cathouse_mary is posting about a hoarding situation - and about 29 cats that will probably be taken away and euthanized by tomorrow if something isn't done. So. If anybody in the SoCal area is reading this and can possibly provide help, click here for more info. Moving It's official, I'm a pack rat. *sigh* I've already thrown away plenty, but there are so many things over which I'm dithering.
Electronics and such: I've no need for a portable CD player or a non-digital camera, but I'm reluctant to throw them away (or at least bring them to some place that would recycle them), because they still work. They're not broken, just outdated :/
VHS tapes: Same; they're in good shape, definitely still viewable, except that I don't have a VCR anymore, and realistically, who does?
Birthday cards and school records: They've got sentimental value, sure, but how often do I look at them?
:(
ETA: I joined my local Freecycle group and put up the electronics for donation.
Also, I managed to bang my knee in the door in such a way that it won't bend now, and I can't put weight on it. It was so painful at first that I thought that I would puke. I'm supposed to do wallpapering tomorrow! :(

Back from the London! Hi! *waves* I've been busy. And away. And busy. Did I mention busy? I'm just back from London, England! I went for a business trip which was awesome and tiring. Business, so no fen visits, alas. However, there will be pictures. Including me and the Tube adventure from hell. I'm also trying out this nifty Dreamwidth feature of crossposting all over. Neat. This is a nothing post of no importance except to say hello and to apologize, as I've two weeks of flist to catch up on. Just wanted you all to know that I'm back, and I've got a lot of catching up and comment replying to do. Yes, I do. So how are all of you? Miss me? Posted on DW because I can't be arsed to get Semagic. :) Current Mood: tiredCurrent Music: Meat Loaf - You Took The Words Right Out of My Mouth |

White Collar So, some people talked about that new show, so I downloaded it on a whim. And I may, sort of, have a new fandom >.< I still don't know whether I want Neal/Peter or Peter/Elizabeth, though I suppose I could solve that quandary by having Neal/Peter/Elizabeth :P
So, if any of you want to claim White Collar for your Holiday card, feel free :)
ETA: No White Collar comm on DW yet, so I went ahead and created one: white_collar. I'll spruce it up a bit tomorrow.

Update Hi, All - chazpure here. odogoddess asked me to log in and let everyone know she's got the crud. :-( She came down sick last Tuesday night, while we were out of town, and since she had her flu shot early, we're pretty sure she's got H1N1. ( more info ) |

The State of Clank and Chains Free To a Good Home: I have a ticket to the The Boston Super Megafest, November 21 & 22. That Spike guy and Ray Park and a lot of other good fannish guests will be there--I can't go and am happy to mail the ticket to anyone in the Boston area who can use it! Visiting: Spent a lovely day shopping for Halloween goodies with cruisedirector last week and acquired new bat earrings (really, can you have too many?) many other fun things! Theater: Saw a local production of Much Ado About Nothing in the brand spanking new Performing Arts Center. We have a good little Shakespeare troupe but I think moving them uptown has priced their tickets out of my range, sadly enough. Fic: Have finished writing accioslash's story for her much belated Live Long N Marry contribution! *collapses* Now just to get it typed up...*whimper* Fests: Also signed up to pinch hit for snarry_swap. No idea if I'll get called up but I felt like finishing my commitment to Accio merited some sort of celebration! |

Happy birthday! Dearest lyssaphra, happy birthday! Hope the day is fun and full of warmth and nice presents :) Here's some music for you. It's a selection I call "My German Super-Leaugue #1". Box.net tends to mess up the sequence of the uploaded files, so I've added links to each song as well as to the folder. I did make it with the proper sequence in mind, so that one song flows into the other smoothly. But in any case, hope you like a few of them! The rest of you guys, feel free to partake. Files are uploaded to Box.net, which means that you can listen to them before/as well as download(ing).
