New fic, new fandom Title: Standards Author: Josan Fandom: Donald Strachey (Books and movies) Pairing: Donald Strachey/Timmy Callahan Rating: PG-13 Disclaimer: They do not belong to me: Richard Stevenson created them, Chad Allen and Sebastian Spence brought them to life. I'm just filling in some of the spaces. Summary: Timmy is in a reflective mood. A.N.: maaseru re-introduced me to this series. I had read the first book many, many years earlier, but had never seen the films. OMG! Sigh. Highly, highly recommend them. Two out so far: "Third Man", "Shock to the System" (available at Amazon) and just perfect for a slashy get-together. Two more in production. Warning: unbeta'ed...and it shows. Sigh. Must stop thinking in French while writing in English. If you know the fandom, beta in the comments, please. And if you don't...just beta my attempt to write English en français. (TéléQuébec has been showing all these great shows – Tintin, Lucky Luck, Asterix, among others. Three times a day!) ETA: Thanks for the beta'ing, folks. Much appreciated. **********( Read more... ) | | Tuesday, January 1st, 2008 | | 12:17 pm |
A story rec I don't read all that much Harry/Draco but this was rec'ed by fourth_rose and I trust her recs enough to go read. It was absolutely amazing. It deals with the physical consequences of surviving both the Dark Lord and Death. Fron H/D Holidays: Author: Anonymous Recipient: malachic Title: Vale Sanare Pairing(s): H/D, H/OMC, D/OMC, past H/G Summary: Draco’s world gains a new component, just when he thought he’d sorted everything out. Thanks to A for her invaluable information on the effects of seizures. References: www.epilepsy.com, http://www.archives.nd.edu/cgi-bin/words.exe, and wikipedia.org. To malachic: I hope you enjoy the story! Happy holidays! Title: from “valens,” meaning “strong; vigorous/healthy/robust,” and “sanare,” meaning “lesser cure, heal; correct; quiet.” http://community.livejournal.com/hd_holidays/95955.htmlAND LEAVE FEEDBACK, EH!!!!! | | 10:06 am |
Beginning on a stern teacher rant I hate to begin this way, but really, people! I wrote for merry_smutmas again this year and feedback was pitiful. Not just for my story (which due to the pairing, I didn't expect all that much) but for all the stories and the drawings. There are 934 people who have friended the fest. WHERE IS THE FEEDBACK? I'm hearing sighs of complaint that so few writers are writing. Not like the good old days, I hear. Well, maybe people are tired of writing and not getting any recognition. It doesn't have to be a lot. A "Wow!" or a "I liked that." is more than sufficient. I know that we are innundated with fic at this time of the year. Yuletide alone produced over 2000 stories. There are thousands of people reading and writers there go gaga when they get twenty comments. *TWENTY!* You want people to keep on writing? Well, indicate that they are writing for a reason. Stop sponging off writers. You're getting this great fic for no charge. You don't even have to belong to the fests to comment. Feedback takes maybe 20 seconds if you have dial-up. Sheesh. I lecture my students almost every day about common politeness. Just because this is Cyberworld doesn't mean that politeness is not part of it. Please and thank you are still the basic signs of a civilised culture. Go read. Go enjoy. AND LEAVE FEEDBACK!!!!!! BTW: may 2008 bring you joy, happiness and all the fic you want to read (on the condition that you leave feedback!) Hugs End of stern teacher rant. Josan | | Monday, December 31st, 2007 | | 8:28 pm |
Remember??? Ten years ago, up here, we were in the midst of the repercussions of the Ice Storm. In my case, 11 days without hydro and the loss of people I had thought were good friends (Nothing like Mother Nature to point out the cracks in a supposedly solid friendship, big time!).
Nine years ago tonight, we were all curled up on our couches, wondering if we had stored enough stuff to get us through the initial 2K meltdown. I don't know about you, but I held my breath at midnight, not really believing we were going to have problems, but well, it didn't hurt to be ready. Just in case, eh? I remember feeling very consoled that 2K had hit in Australia and they were still functioning.
For those of you still on-line tonight, my early wishes. May 2008 bring you health, wealth and prosperity. May it be kind to you. May it bring you the fic you want to write and the fic you want to read.
I want to thank you all for the support you've provided over the years. The encouragement. The feedback. :-)
Virtual tight hugs to all of you.
Love,

New Fic, New Fandom Title: Kuzum Author: Josan Fandom: The Lymond Chronicles Disclaimer: They don't belong to me. They belong to Dorothy Dunnett. Rating: PG Pairing: Francis and Kuzum Warning: None Summary: Francis has to respond to a question. Dedication: To the very patient fajrdrako, to whom I promised a story in this fandom ages ago. Dear lady, please excuse any inconsistencies: it's been a while since I read the books. ( Kuzum ) | | Friday, December 7th, 2007 | | 1:16 pm |
Oh...my! Nothing raises your confidence like leaving your gym just as an ambulance backs up to the entrance and two paramedics rush out, grab a gurney and quickly enter the gym you've just left. Current Mood: contemplative | | Monday, December 3rd, 2007 | | 9:28 pm |
Well, I've given up on LJ The straw that broke the camel's back: that adult filter crap. Add to that the sale to a company that makes me nervous knowing that they have my credit card info from when I paid for lJ... So, for a while, I'll be posting in both places, but all my stories will go up here from now on. Current Mood: blah | | 5:44 pm |
Question before I pay to be here If I pay, does this mean that I get rid of the advertising that is just under Tweak's image? AND the advertising that is to the left of the display?
Because with dial-up, these make coming to screen really long and annoying.
ALSO: Are comments coming through in your email, unlike LJ? | | Thursday, August 23rd, 2007 | | 7:57 pm |
Let's hope that the rest of the school year is NOT like this! Got to school around 8:10 for 8:30 "breakfast meeting".
Went to find my mail box. They've all been moved. Find where they now are. Have to locate mine as the whole thing's been fiddled around with...with no sense of logic. Names are NOT in alphabetical order, not by teaching level. Finally find mine.
No schedule in it.
Go to meeting. Greet colleagues. Find the person in charge of offices and remind her that I am team-teaching with Linda so we should be in the same office. She agrees and promises to find me a desk to add to the room. (I left a message a week ago on her answering machine about the situation.)
Meeting begins. Schedules promised for later that morning.
Usual beginning of year crap...with a minor bombshell: dress code for the teachers (ambiguous enough so that the Brittnay Spears wannabes are smiling...The Admin is going to regret that ambiguity!) and the real bombshell: Absences will be charged as either 1/2 day or a full day (no more replacement for 1 period while you run off to doctor's appointment, etc.) Also, even if you're not teaching, you are still expected to be in school. Reminder that they are being paid for work from 8:30 until 4:40.
Needless to say, the young teachers freak out. Director General promises to review policy (but he won't).
There are eight other teachers in the office I am supposed to be added to. They finally find me a small, narrow table...which is shoved into a corner. I smile.
Lunch time. Still no schedules.
I come home, open the box of truffles Ewa gifted me with at Prophecy (Bless you, EWA!) and eat chocolate with lunch.
Fill up the car with the stuff I had to bring home from school in June since I had no office and there is no bloody way any of what I have will even fit under the table I have been assigned.
As I enter the school with my own personal dolly stacked high, the office person looks at me. I point out that there are still three boxes of books of books to come ('cause the library still has no one running it. They let go the Lib Tech because some previous admin idiot had classified her as being a secretary and then the new DG decided that's what she should be --- so she quit and now we have no one in the library...but, hey! that's not important, eh! [rolling eyes here]). She offers me an alternative. A wee, small office of my very own. Away from Linda but on the same floor. And I grab it. That way, when we need to discuss the students, we can be alone.
The room is truly wee. I hope the architect of this school died a horrible death. Classrooms are very small and narrow and barely fit in the 30+ desks we need -- no walking around room for a short, plump teacher! -- and what the hell was a room this size supposed to house?
Anyhoot, the room does have TWO windows, but has not yet been cleaned. I shall be bringing in cleaning supplies tomorrow and cleaning it. Must also find a bookcase, have stolen a chair, but still have no table nor a desk.
Still no schedule.
Afternoon meeting.
Announcement that schedules should be out before we leave at 3.
Young teachers still freaking out on attendance policy for teachers, when someone brings up the point that she brought material to photocopy for the first day and there's no paper.
No, says the admin. There isn't. Seems the school of 850 students plus teachers used enough last year for a school of 3000 students. (The young teachers were never taught to use a blackboard! I'm serious about that, people. The new teachers' college doesn't even have them in their classrooms. Everything should be photocopied or power point...save we don't have that technology in our classrooms yet. And probably won't for some years as they are still paying off the building. But since the new DG fired most of the support staff and we have to do attendance, they have put computers in each classroom -- BTW, that's a government requirement that this school has finally got around to doing -- BUT many of them still aren't hooked up.)
The admin promises that there will be a photocopying policy in place for Monday when we will be allowed to photocopy. I have placement tests planned for Day 2.
Oh, and there will be no schedules today. Hopefully for tomorrow.
More brouhaha about PD days, all the committees that need addressing and blah, blah, blah. (Which means that there will be no subject meetings at all during the year other than Monday's.)
Three o'clock comes along. I head home for more chocolate (Many thanks, EWA!).
Repeat tomorrow, with the hope that schedules are finally done and we know where and what we're doing when.
Oh, and then we find out that some kid who was to have been kicked out after last year (intimidation in person and by email, burning another kid with a cigarette plus failing Math, French and Sciences) has been permitted back. So much for the fact that a cheque was not going to pay any inappropriate student's way back in. HA!
I need a drink! |
